WIN OF THE WEEK
THE Caloundra Sharks turned the Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby League season on its head on Saturday when it beat Maroochydore. The reigning premier Sharks had largely struggled for most of this campaign, losing six of its first seven matches but then it surprisingly snapped the Swans' unblemished start the season with a 32-18 result at Golden Beach. Certainly didn't see that coming and now the local comp looks as open as ever. Brett Doherty bagged a brace of tries during the encounter.
FAIL OF THE WEEK
WHILE Sunshine Coast Falcons-contracted Doherty was firing for Caloundra, his state league team-mates battled to make an impact against the Northern Pride. Coming off the back of a two-game winning run, the Falcons buckled badly on home soil, losing 28-6. Any hopes of a finals appearance are slowly slipping away for the 11th-placed Sunshine Coast, which this year joined forces with the Melbourne Storm. Meanwhile, the Storm's other affiliate, Easts, is sixth on the ladder.
