Only a matter of time for Fire

FOOTBALL: Sunshine Coast captain Grand De Chastel is confident his team can arrest its goal-scoring woes in the National Premier Leagues Queensland.

The 10th-placed Fire has the worst attacking record in the 12-team competition, with six goals from seven outings.

But De Chastel believes the side is close to breaking the shackles.

“We’ve been working on a few attacking drills in training and have been looking sharp so we’ll be going out there to put on a positive performance,” he said ahead of Saturday’s round eight clash with fourth-placed Moreton Bay at Sunshine Coast Stadium (2pm).

“We’re confident. We’re putting in the yards at training we’ve been unlucky a few times (in games).

“I believe we’re doing the right things and eventually some things will go our way and we’ll get some good results and hopefully on Saturday.”

The Fire has shown plenty of promise in some games this season, including wins over the Brisbane Roar youth side and a well-contested loss to second-placed Redlands United.

The side was beaten 3-0 by arch rival Brisbane Strikers at Perry Park though, last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Jets are coming off the back of a 6-1 trouncing of Olympic FC.

The visitors boast last year’s Fire captain Reyze Kelly and the squad also includes last year’s top goal scorer at the Fire, Jacob Fulluck.

“There are always going to be feelings when you play against your old club, but it’s another game where we want three points,” Kelly said.

No local games

THE Sunshine Coast Football premier men’s competition will not be contested this weekend.

A report in yesterday’s Daily incorrectly said games would be played tonight.

Round five of the competition will in fact be contested next weekend.
