Name: Martin Cordwell
Position:
Front
Row
Started playing when: I started playing rugby league at 5 years old for the Nambour Crushers, I first started playing for the Sunshine Coast Falcons in the inaugural year of 2006.
Pre-game ritual: I like to stick to a similar routine with my preparation for every game to keep consistency.
I get my bag
packed for the game the day before and always make sure I am hydrated and have
a big meal before bed. The morning of our games if we are playing at home, I
will just relax with my family and my preparation will vary depending
what time of day we play. I don't eat to much on game day and I like
to make sure I am in early to the game or bus if we are
traveling. Before I get changed into our jerseys I always have a
quick chat to my wife and parents and tell them I love them. I stay nice
and relaxed until its time for warmup.
Training tip/s: I am a big believer in the old boxing mentality of training hard to make the game easy.
Most memorable career moment: There are a lot of great memories over many different levels of the game. I loved making my QLD cup debut, winning the universities world cup in 2008 and then playing and winning for the QLD Rangers was unreal.
Favourite quote: I have always liked he quotes, "Don't die with the music in you" and "Leave no stone unturned"
What do you do in your down time: I just love to spend any spare minute I get in around work and football with my wife Lisa and two boys Lucas and Isaac.
Advice to young players interested in getting into the game: It's important to always remember and enjoy what the game means to you in the big picture. I think its a great idea to set goals and you will achieve them if you stick to the process and work hard at what is required to get there. Do the hard work, stay in the grind and you will get your desired outcome both on and off the field.
Best food for fuel: I think the best food for fuel is my Mums and now Wife's Chicken Curry. Can't give away the secret recipe though!!
Catch Martin at the next SC Falcons home game!
