R Willy is not your typical 22 year old. Having been snapped up to join the elite Nitro Circus crew he has quickly become one of the most exciting action sports athletes competing and performing today. With several world first tricks up his belt and now dominating the BMX world there’s no doubt each time he performs there’s a chance a he will land a new record or world first.
When was the last time you got to perform to a home crowd: This will be my first time performing on the Sunshine Coast. I got to practise last year and tried the first ever triple backflip on a scooter and I ended up doing 3.5 flips to my head. Had to go to Nambour by the time I got back it was over… this is kind of my redemption.
Has touring around the world changed the way you feel about scooter/ BMX: When I started scootering, no one was making anything off it. It was just a hobby and it still is for me, it’s all about the fun. But, it’s good to be able to make it a job and live a perfect life!
Worst Injuries: Smashing my teeth out was probably the worst thing I’ve ever done. Just because it’s so annoying and I hate the dentist. But I’ve also separated my shoulder, broke both my feet and one of my arms.
How to you go about learning and landing new tricks: Basically, like normal people count sheep to go to sleep you k now sheep jumping fences. Well I think of new tricks to try that have no one’s ever done before and I’ll wake up the next day and if we have a Nitro show I’ll give them a go and see how it goes. If I get close I just keep trying.
