After making guest appearances with the Firebirds, Laura Scherian now joins the Sunshine Coast Lightning squad. Adding valuable leadership having captained the Queensland Fusion in the Australian Netball League she is also a whiz in the kitchen with a BA in Health Science!
Name: Laura Scherian (Shez)
Started playing when: I started playing when I was 4, for Possums Netball club in Gisborne, Victoria.
Pre-game ritual: I like to have a Banana and a mocha as well as listen to some country twang (Honkytonk Badonkadonk by Trace Adkins and Boys ‘Round Here by Blake Shelton are a must).
Training tip: When you are training and learning new skills you should always imagine where it could be applied on court in a game situation.
Most memorable career moment: Getting a call offering me a spot in the Sunshine Coast Lighting team for 2017.
Favourite quote: “Success is not the result of spontaneous combustion, you must set yourself on fire."
What do you do in your down-time: I love to cook for people, go out for coffee, listen to country music and hang out with my family, especially my favourite and only nephew ‘Matty’.
Advice to young players interested in getting into the game: I would say; Play all sports, give everything a go, whatever you do should be fun! Different sports always have skills that can be advantageous to your netball game and vice versa.
Best food for fuel:
One of my favourite recipes “Shez’s Veggie Slice’- It is nutritionally well balanced, super easy and very tasty.
