League legends named for clash at Stockland

Thier hairlines may have receded, but their passion for the Queensland and New South Wales jerseys has not waned.

That was the observation of former Broncos and Queensland utility Craig Teevan yesterday at the launch of next month's Legends of League match at Stockland Sunshine Coast Stadium.

The match will pit teams of Queensland and NSW "legends", with both sides boasting more than 4800 games of NRL experience.

Yesterday's announcement for the May 4 match included names such as Robbie O'Davis, Kerrord Walters, Nathan Blacklock, Matt Geyer, David Peachey and Greg Florimo.

Further announcements will be made over the coming weeks, with six players yet to be recruited.  Organisers hinted at having big names up their sleeves, saying the yet-to-be-named players have a total of more than 1200 NRL games, 46 Origins and 28 Tests to their names.

It will mark the first time the concept has been brought to the Sunshine Coast, having proved a hit in other regional centres in Queensland, NSW and Papua New Guinea.

It attracted 9500 fans in Ipswich and Queensland Legends five-eighth and organiser Craig Teevan said he hoped for a similar response from the Coast.

"They get across the line and some of the younger guys, the Robbie O'Davis's and David Peacheys of the world, the guys who haven't been long out of the game, when they see half an opening, they go for it," Teevan said.

"They can put the foot down and put on a bit of a show.

"The match will be typical of games between Queensland and New South Wales and it has been very well received in other regional areas and we're really looking forward to putting a game on."
