Just quietly, Rowdy's got an edge in footy tipping

WHAT about my NRL tipping last week - I got one out of eight.

I was going to let my wife do the picks next week as surely she could not do any worse, but I might have a better idea to stop me getting pantsed.

Dale "Rowdy" Shearer has a footy tipping service similar to what Best Bets is to horse racing.

He got six out of eight last week - enormous in such a tough round - plus he had tips on all the exotics. He can be contacted on dale@ibetsports.com.au if, like me, you need help.

OVER the past eight days I have watched some great televised footy - all codes excluding football - and I think I now know the Anzac code and all things attached off by heart.

The encouraging thing was how well they were all done and how respectful the players and crowds were during the ceremonies - it was really moving.

On the local front I was talking to a footy tragic who went to the Sharks v Dolphins game last Saturday night and the Caloundra Panthers v Nambour Aussie rules game on the Sunday. He commented that their ceremonies were done really well and a great tribute to the Anzac spirit.

LAST Friday the SC Falcons bussed 25 very excited children - plus parents - from their Falcons Footy program, Rugby League for Children of Different Abilities, to Brisbane to watch the Broncos' final training session before their clash with Parramatta the next day.

The kids loved seeing their idols up close and thought "they looked a lot bigger in real life than they do on TV".

The Broncos were fantastic with the kids and a huge thanks must go to Wayne Bennett and the club for allowing us to bring our Falcons Footy children down to mix with the players.

A big thanks to Sam Thaiday and Falcons Footy Ambassador Matt Gillett for their enthusiasm towards the kids - it was great.

Of course the guy smiling the most was ex-Bronco Kerrod Walters, who organised the day and kept me amused with Wayne quotes.

The smiles on the kids' faces, and the parents, was something I will never forget and I'm sure the bus trip home was a lot quieter than on the way down - as the kids ran themselves ragged at Red Hill.

Just one last thing on Falcons Footy - SC Falcons CEO Chris Flannery has picked up the national "above and beyond" award from Autism Spectrum Australia for his work with the Falcons Footy program.

Chris was the recipient of the award but program co-ordinator Nadine Hoffman, NRL skills development officer Glen Dreger, ambassador Kerrod Walters and all of the SC Falcons Colts and Intrust Super Cup players who help out before each home game should also have been receiving the award alongside him for all of their hard work they have put into Falcons Footy.
