An incident in which a Brisbane Broncos footballer's tackle resulted in a player's death has been referred straight to the Queensland Rugby League judiciary.
Sunshine Coast Falcons forward James Ackerman died in a Brisbane hospital on Monday after suffering a critical head injury in a Queensland Cup match against the Norths Devils at Bishop Park on Saturday night.
The QRL said on Tuesday that the player involved in the tackle, Broncos contracted forward Francis Molo, would appear before the judiciary at a "date to be confirmed."Tributes continue to pour in for 25-year-old father of two Ackerman, who suffered a major brain injury when tackled in the fourth minute of the match.
A trust fund has been set up, with plans in place for a major fundraiser involving the Brisbane Broncos and the Melbourne Storm later this year in Ackerman's honour.
The Broncos and other supporters have also rallied behind shattered 20-year-old Molo.
